V was raised in a corporate family from Charter Hill, Night City. At some point he enlisted into the Arasaka Corporation, being trained in creating and maintaining intelligence networks, crisis impact analysis, and establishing defense of corporate assets in the event of armed conflict. During his time in the company, V caught an Arasaka sales department employee spying for Petrochem. The official story was that he slipped in the shower and died. The truth is that he was V's first kill. Afterwards, V got a promotion and a promise that he would not have to dirty his hands for a while. Their superior, Arthur Jenkins, was a big reason V was a high ranking counterintelligence operative agent in the Arasaka Tower of Night City.

Over a two-year period of active duty, V completed six defensive and five offensive operations. Their last assignment was a full reconnaissance of an Arasaka facility in Watson, which led to tracking and intercepting a spy from Baskin Undercover Inc, who was suspected to have been working under Militech orders. With that mission, V proved he was an effective autonomous operative; clever and ambitious, he was always committed to completing the assignments and never showed disloyalty to Arasaka. However, he showed high levels of stress.

During the Frankfurt leak, Jenkins was tasked with dealing with the situation after assassinating a number of ESC representatives without the official approval of his superior, Susan Abernathy. V was tasked by Jenkins to assassinate Abernathy, who he claimed had stolen his position. V called his street contact and old friend Jackie Welles to meet at Lizzie's Bar. While there V discussed the details of the job, however Jackie was unwilling to do it, and did not want V to go through with it either. During the conversation, the two were cornered by Arasaka agents under Abernathy's command, they stripped V of his corporate status and took the information regarding Jenkins. They attempted to bring in V as well, but relented after being threatened by Jackie. V lamented that their life effectively over, However Jackie claimed that he was in fact finally free of the corporate world. He then allowed V to stay at his home until he got back on his feet.

After some time in the merc game, V and Jackie were chosen by known fixer Dexter Deshawn for a heist to get a prototype biochip known as the Relic. The plan was going well until they were forced to hide and witnessed the death of Saburo Arasaka by the hand of his own son Yorinobu. They attempted to flee, but Jackie died to fatal wounds, inserting the Relic into V's neruoslot with his last breath. Upon informing Dexter, V would be shot in the head and left in a landfill, only for the Relic to be his saving grace, but also his doom. Learning that it houses the engram of Johnny Silverhand and that the Relic is turning him into Johnny, V would be in a race against time to find a way to survive. Moving about Night City and getting involved in various mishaps, including a series of events in Dogtown, V with the assistance of Johnny continues to find leads and answers, but for how long....

Using some two forms of medication, V can switch between the personalities of himself and Johnny. Using pseudoendotrizine, Johnny Silverhand takes the wheel. Using omega blockers, V takes control.

His combat style can classified as "Tactical Combat Netrunner", blending the usage of quickhacks, stealth tactics, and assault combat. A testament to his Arasaka training as a Netrunner, a solo, and a spy
