In the Absolute Universe, Diana did not grow up on a Paradise Island with a sisterhood of Amazons, but was raised alone by the sorceress Circe on the Wild Isle of Hell. Diana was taken from the amazons as a baby as punishment for an unknown offense as the sisterhood was imprisoned for all eternity. Furthermore, Zeus outlawed the very word "Amazon", so that no mortal or god could ever speak it.

Apollo delivered Diana to Circe, who was previously imprisoned on the Wild Isle for her own crimes, but did not give her any instructions to keep her alive. Circe initially planned to abandon Diana to die on a rock, but just as a snake slithered by and tried to eat her, the baby Diana suddenly grabbed the snake and yeeted it a distance away, impressing the witch and causing her to decide on raising and caring for her. Diana would continue to be hunted by beasts, demons, and lost souls as she grew to adulthood, but would continuously overpower or befriend them. Circe would also grow to love Diana as if she were her own daughter and add more comforts to make it into a fitting home for her.

Towards adulthood, Diana began to feel like there was a word that she had never said, but was important and powerful. As Circe sensed that the legacy of the Amazons was needed once more, she encouraged Diana to say the word that fully represented who she truly was, with pride and courage: Amazon. Circe informed Diana that the Amazons were protectors of the world above and that they had the duty to combat powerful beasts known as Harbingers who would seek to feast on it. Circe outfitted Diana with the greatest weapons she could forge, the powerful Athena Blade and the Nemesis Lasso, along with protective gauntlets and an unbreakable tiara, and sent her to the world above to protect it from otherworldly threats.

It was from this point on that Diana would grow to be known as Wonder Woman, last of the Amazons and the Witch of the Wild Isle.

OOC:I feel like if anybody were to try to look into the Absolute Universe as their first foray into DC's comic offerings, it might throw them off how much different the characters and lore are. As an alternate universe, though, it's more interesting than I thought it would be when they first announced the initial titles. The first issues have done a good job of selling their premises.

"Mother once told me that when I was first delivered to the Wild Isle as a baby, I threw a serpent a distance. The gods truly had no intention of allowing my survival, but I shrugged off every would-be executioner they would send."

"I am Diana of Themiscyra, last of the Amazons, daughter of Circe, and the Witch of the Wild Isle, and as long as I draw breath, the Harbingers will not have this world."
