Character Info.
Sendai Hakurei no Miko has never formally engaged in the Spell Card duel. In her time, Youkai extermination was a very literal meaning of the word. It is said that in generations before Reimu became the Hakurei Shrine Maiden, the Hakurei Miko was a capable fighter. She had to be, as not only was she responsible for maintaining the Great Hakurei Barrier, but also in combating Youkai throughout the human settlements in Gensokyo. Divine power was not enough to survive, and the Hakurei Miko needed far more extensive training to defeat powerful Youkai.
The ultimate technique of the Hakurei dynasty is know as 'Fantasy Nature.' Each Hakurei Miko has a different Fantasy Nature. For Sendai, hers manifested as the inner darkness in her spirit, granting her immense physical prowess fueled by the animosity from the humans she protected. Her terrifying power and capabilities sparked fear and hate from her own kind, and as such, she channeled the negative feelings she bottled away into the raw power within.
Sendai's true power level is hard to gauge, considering that she on her own merits is a very capable, strong woman even without tapping into her divine power. She can let loose a flurry of ****s and is almost twice as fast as most male athletes. In a normal fight she would likely knock out most ***ailants before getting winded, but when she has to face a serious opponent she is a no nonsense fighter. She lived and died as the Hakurei Miko, with youkai extermination being her primary responsibility. Sendai will fight using divine power against multiple opponents, unleashing stunning ****s and radiant magic from her innate powers as the Hakurei Miko. Hunting a dangerous greater youkai, or other formidable foe, Sendai will use powerful sealing wards or incantations to disable and rapidly wear down an opponent under a hail of divine fists. If a threat proves especially dangerous, she will use her Fantasy Nature and manifest her inner darkness both as a means of further defense and durability, as well as unleashing her unbridled fury as the Hakurei Miko. In this state, her body is cloaked in an opaque, transcendent darkness that empowers her ****s with devastating power. Her durability is far greater in this form, able to shrug off immense punishment and respond in kind with merciless retribution.
Since her departure from this mortal coil and return from Heaven, Sendai's Fantasy Nature has since shifted from a dark state of animosity. Her transcended form is more radiant and pure, instead being aligned almost exclusively to radiance and divinity as opposed to what essentially was dark magic.
Sendai could not return with Rumia when Reimu used her own Fantasy Nature to travel to the boundary gap where Rumia and Sendai’s spirits were trapped. A human that loses their body can’t return to life, resulting in Sendai’s spirit fading away when the barrier collapsed. Her soul drifted to the banks of the Sanzu River where she waited for the ferry. Comfort in conversation was shared with Komachi Onizuka as she was ferried to the banks of Higen to stand before the Yama and await her judgement.
The deliberations of the Yama brought forth all allegations of her sins in life, as well as the virtues and duties as the Hakurei Shrine Maiden. Shiki Eiki began a harsh lecture for her act of martyrdom, highlighting that in her selfless act to redeem and save Rumia, she had orphaned Reimu, left Gensokyo and the human villages without its greatest protector, abandoned her duties to maintaining the Great Hakurei Border, and wastefully threw her life away. Though her avarice was dismissed as a human flaw, her trial council could not overlook the value of her sacrifice. Taking a step back from the resulting effects, the trial examined more thoroughly at what alternatives there were, and if her actions held stronger value than the impacts that followed.
Ultimately her trial was interrupted by a message from the Ministry of Right and Wrong, on orders from Heaven to judge her worthy of ascending to become a Celestial. The Heavens, seeing Reimu’s deeds and actions as reflections of what her mother could be- A Hakurei Shrine Maiden proper, joining the ranks of divinity, ushered down the word both to combat the rumor that entering Heaven was halted, and to use her as an example of what humans would have to aspire to gain access to Heaven. Much to the chagrin of Shiki Eiki, she was strong armed into reluctantly stamping her papers and sent her on her way.
As a Celestial spirit, Sendai was an absolute embarr***ment to Heaven. In the years lingering within Yuyuko and Yukari’s barrier, the Heavens had come to observe Reimu’s behavior as a result of her mother’s imprint left upon her before her noble sacrifice. They expected a kind, comp***ionate miko with perhaps a lazy interpretation of her duties. Instead they welcomed, with open arms, a gruff, belligerent drunk woman who was a constantly restless thorn in their side. Sendai enjoyed the carefree lifestyle for all that it was worth, and only ever found herself being made to watch the gate, or act the role of the role model for humans to enter Heaven. Numerous requests were submitted back down through the Ministry to Shiki Eiki from Heaven for her to find a new afterlife to send her to, met back only with rejection from the Yama. After the third request was returned with “You got what you bargained for” the Celestials made the decision to discretely excuse Sendai from her position in Heaven and send her back to Gensokyo as a mortal human once again.
Since then, she's slowly been adjusting and introducing herself back into Gensokyo, for better or worse. She has been having trouble adapting to Reimu's spell card means of settling incidents, but thankfully the individuals she's dealt with thus far are quite enthusiastic to settling disputes 'in the old ways' instead.
