Kindlegrave Keep used to house the region's most dangerous treasure hunters and dragon killers that took pride in their profession. Growing tired of their arrogance at slaughtering her kind, one dragon made an example out of these hunters which is how the fort earned its name. Afterwards, she made the fort her den where she continued to horde treasures and dispose of anyone brave or dumb enough to seek them out.
She grew lonely over time however and desired to have a mate and children of her own. Unfortunately, her options at the time were scarce and she became desperate. Desperate enough, to negotiate with a thief who begged for his life after watching his group be burned alive. Months had gone by, and she had children of her own with a reluctant thief who plotted his escape every single day. One night, he grabbed as much as he could carry and tried to leave, but not before 'ridding the world of halfling abominations'. He wasn't thorough enough, and the last surviving child cried out which alerted their mother. He did not live to see the next day.
Out of anger and grief, she decided that her last remaining child would not leave the keep. Instead of treasures, she captured people that would help teach her child while under close supervision. From expert culinarians to master spellcasters and everything in between. No one was safe and anyone who didn't comply was killed and quickly replaced.

Ashley, or Ash for short, grew up completely cut off from the outside world due his mother's fears and because of this, he is very eager to learn and explore the world. On occasion, that curiosity will lead to him resorting to sneakier methods which more often than that land him in trouble with his mother or any of his caretakers. Despite being caught numerous times, Ash is stubborn and continues to leave home and be back before anyone notices. He is well mannered and tries his best to come off as composed and dignified but those around him know he is sometimes prone to being fussy or spoiled when inconvenienced. Because he spends almost all of his time learning through books, he can seem a little clueless about the real world and may inaccurately read situation at best or end up in trouble at worst.

β Fantasy/Medieval: A little less than a century old, Ashley is under close and constant supervision, rarely ever allowed to leave his home. His overprotecting mother hiring, bribing and even capturing mentors, caretakers and protection to the watch over the halfling. Despite all the precautions taken, he finds ways to slip away, sometimes for extended periods of time, believing a taste of freedom is worth facing his ill-tempered mother afterwards. She is, however, far more lenient if he is the care of another dragon as long as he is safe during his travels.
β Modern: Ashley remained in Kindlegrave Keep, slowly transforming the old fort into a manor over the years. His mother has left her den with a new mate and the caverns she dug along with all the wealth she's hoarded remains untouched. Ashley lives in solitude now, keeping a watchful eye over all the wealth and the vast quantity of old books they have accumulated over the years. Every now and then, he may leave his home in the care of hired help, with some protective spells sprinkled here and there, so that he may travel and learn about human culture while taking in the sights.
