Aether is usually happy and chatty, rather affectionate with people he is fond of but is smug, cheeky and playful, often referring to Paimon as 'Emergency Food' when people ask about the small floaty girl. He has blonde hair, bright golden eyes, standng just over 5'7 feet tall and having an average body shape. Aether wears a dark brown breastplate vest with gold and black accents baring his midriff, a white scarf clamped down with a relatively large gold ring, and a white two-tailed cape lined with a golden-yellow with golden embroidery and decals and gold plating tucked underneath. He wears more gold plating on his left shoulder and a white tasseled gold earring with a black bead in his left ear. He wears dark brown-and-black hakama pants, brown gloves and black boots accented with gold, and has lightly-defined pecs which do not appear in his in-game model. His hair is cut at somewhat medium length with choppy bangs at the front with waist-length hair at the back braided and tied with a gold and white tasseled band.

Backstory

In an unexpected encounter in the world of Teyvat with some unknown deity, the twins' godly powers were stripped from them, and they were cast down into the world below. When Aether awoke, Lumine was nowhere to be seen...and try as he might, his wings of light could not be summoned, nor would the gates between worlds open for him. Hunger plagued his senses, and the pain and fatigue of mortality crept into his being. Thus was he forced to wander the wilderness, eking out survival with naught but a simple sword to defend himself from nature's dangers, and hoping beyond hope to find his sister somewhere along the way. Fortunately, not all of his strength was sapped, though his now mortal self would soon see that change without a steady upkeep of nutrition.

While fishing at the seaside to sate his hunger one day, Aether found his makeshift rod tugged toward the undertow by an unseen force. Believing himself to have caught "the big one," he braced, reeled back with all his strength...but instead of a fish, he found a young girl on the end of his rod. The tyke identified herself as Paimon, and though she had the capacity for flight independent of wings, she was quick to inform Aether that such abilities are not common among the people of Teyvat. Having grown weary of his own loneliness, and considering that he would need all the help he could get to find Lumine, the man welcomed Paimon into his small fold. The fairy-like girl's knowledge of Teyvat was limited, but she was nonetheless able to at least help him determine what plant life may be edible, among other survival tips.

While on the road, Aether and Paimon discovered a strange statue. Something within the statue...spoke to Aether, in a way he was rather unfamiliar with. It turned out this statue represented one of the Seven Archons, mythical figures in Teyvat's history and religion, akin to gods, and sometimes referred to as such interchangeably. Given Aether and Lumine's seemingly godlike status prior to their encounter with the Unknown God, Paimon hypothesized that if anyone would know how to find his sister and send him home, it would be the Seven. Thus, Aether's goal was set: appeal to the Seven in whatever ways he must, reunite with Lumine...and hopefully carry onward after that.

Knowledge was not the only thing gained from that statue, however. In a moment of what Aether can only describe as "resonance," a new power was passed onto him: the power of wind. With but a thought, the traveler could manipulate the air around him, conjuring gusts and gales virtually at will! In Teyvat, such power is commonly known as the power of Anemo, one of the natural elements of the world. Anemo represents wind, Pyro fire, Cryo ice, Hydro water, Electro lightning, and Geo earth and stone. As Aether would later learn, however, such gifts are not normally harnessed by mortals without a device known as a Vision. What his exception to that rule could mean is anyone's guess.

Not long after, Aether and Paimon encountered their next companion: a spry, lovely young woman named Amber, claiming to be an Outrider for an organization known as the Knights of Favonius in a city-state named Monstadt. Aether, being a stranger in Teyvat, knew nothing of what she spoke, and likely would have appeared to be an utter fool in her presence without Paimon to...negotiate, so to speak. Fortunately, of all Amber's personal vices, a quickness to suspect was not among them. In her eyes, Aether was but a wanderer in a strange new land, far removed from civilization, and thus at risk of attack at any moment. To remedy such, she led him and Paimon back to Monstadt herself, proving to be no slouch with a bow along the way. Once in tow, Aether was quickly introduced to a flurry of new faces. Kaeya, Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius; Jean, their acting Grand Master; Lisa, the..."mature" librarian; Katheryne, the Adventurer's Guild receptionist; Diluc, the mysterious owner of the Dawn Winery; and several others around town. With his list of friends growing so fast, something in the traveler's gut told him that he'd meet plenty more new faces before even getting close to Lumine...
